At Bloor Valley Dental we understand that patients today can have concerns regarding the safety of receiving dental treatment. You can rest assured that, at our office, we adhere to extremely stringent infection control protocols referred to as "Universal Precautions." This means that every patient is treated with the highest standard of sterilization and infection control.

After a patient appointment, all instruments are thoroughly cleansed. After this, we sterilize each instrument with a Statim Autoclave—including all handpieces. Our sterilizer is spore tested daily and each cycle is monitored to ensure that sterilization has been achieved. Any items unable to be sterilized are disposed of after each patient. We also work with Octagon to ensure that all biohazardous waste is properly disposed of. All surfaces are disinfected with chemical solutions that ensure the highest level of infection control and protection to the environment.

Clinical staff members wear gloves for the protection of both themselves and their patients. Gloves may be changed and disposed of several times during each dental procedure. Non-latex materials are available for use on patients with latex allergies. Clinical staff use protective eyewear to avoid injury and as a barrier to eye contaminants. Vision protection for patients is insured through safety UV sunglasses that prevent glare from overhead dental lights as well. The dentist, assistants, and hygienists wear masks as a safety measure for both the patient and the dental care provider.
